Episode 65 - Rhythms of Grace

I really enjoyed this episode. Being privy to a couple of the backgrounding meetings you mentioned, I think you did a great job of characterizing them and honoring them. Two points stood out for me: Dan, your characterization of the potential impact of sabbath observance as a restoration of or support of rhythm seems worth a deeper look. When Sabbath (or just about anything suggested by scriptures or given by God) is viewed as a law or rule to be followed or broken, it naturally becomes something "other", something non-relational. As you linked this Sabbath discussion to grace, I can see that God's grace given to us but viewed as merely a state or "gift" can also be perceived as something "other" than part of our living relationship with God. Rhythm rather suggests movement together (think of listening to a symphony--they individually play together, then we get to join in the rhythm as we listen)...it is by nature perceived as relational. I want to think of Grace as relational. I want to think of Holy as relational as well. Point 2: Becky, I think spiritual hunger is also a relational thing. I bet your hunger to explore liturgy or similar regular points of connection is some sort of invitation into something with God. I share some of those urgings about certain declarations and some stuff about more frequent communion celebration. Let's see where hunger leads!
